Now that the nights are shorter and there’s a distinct chill in the air, it’s time to start clearing your garden ready for winter. Sorting it out now will not only ensure that your garden is neat and tidy now, but will also help in the spring when there is suddenly a whole lot more work to do in the garden.
Clearing Plants and Trees
It’s a good idea to start cutting back plants and trees in your garden now that most of the autumn leaves have fallen. Leaving dead leaves on your grass is not going to do your lawn any favours and so this is an important task in clearing your garden too. Trimming hedges, cutting back trees and clearing out dead plants and leaves is best done before the first frosts arrive. It is a much harder job when the ground is frozen and you will also leave your plants, trees and hedges vulnerable to the cold and likely to suffer or die if they are cut back once winter has set in.
Clearing Patios and Sheds
The other part of getting your garden cleared up for winter is sorting out your patio and shed. We all seem to accumulate extra stuff during the summer and so you may need to clear out your shed before you have space to put away patio furniture, barbeques and the like. Try to be ruthless and get rid of anything that is broken or that you no longer use. You’ll be grateful in the spring when you don’t have to fight your way through a mountain of junk to try and get to the lawn mower!
Get Rid of Garden Waste
One of the big problems of this time of year is that all the dead leaves quickly fill up your composting bin and there’s no room left for all the branches and trimmings from trees and hedges. Then when you start realising that you have broken patio furniture or an old barbeque to get rid of, not to mention garden toys that your children have now outgrown, it starts to look like an overwhelming job to get rid of it all.
Taking your junk to the tip is an option, but at this time of year everyone else is clearing out their garden too, so you’re likely to end up waiting in long queues at the weekend. It’s also less than ideal to have to transport wet and possibly mouldy plant waste and dead leaves in your car.
A much easier solution is to use our garden clearance service. We’ll clear your waste straight from your garden to our collection van, so you don’t need to do any of the lifting and carrying. Your garden will be left tidy and the removed waste will be recycled, reused or disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.
